Brazil Bourbon Santos

Brazil Bourbon Santos "Fazenda Pindaibas"

The largest coffee producing country in the world, Brazil, produces a plethora of coffees the vast majority of which are commercial grades with only a few qualifying as specialty coffees. One of these, 'Bourbon Santos', is of particular interest having been know in the trade as one of the best growths for over a hundred years. The coffee takes its name from the port of Santos, through which the coffee is shipped, and Bourbon is a variety of coffea arabica brought to Brazil from the Indian Ocean island of Bourbon.

Fazenda Pindaibas is located at an elevation of 3,000 feet near the town of Piumhi in the southeastern region of Minas Gerais. The fazenda is owned by the Baggio family who celebrate their 125th coffee harvest in Brazil this year (2007). Ten hectares of Fazenda Pindaibas were set aside by the current owner, Jose Astor Baggio, and dedicated to the production of a high quality Bourbon coffee. Because uniform maturity of the coffee cherries is essential to produce the best flavour, the coffee is hand picked with special care by dedicated and experienced workers. The coffee is naturally processed using traditional methods. The Baggio family combine the latest technology with years of experience to produce this quality coffee which has a limited production of only 1,500 pounds.
