Kate Carlyle
Founder of
Mustardseed & Moonshine
At the early age of ten, Kate Carlyle discovered The Ware Collection of Blaschka Glass Flowers at the Harvard Museum of Natural History. An incredible collection of over 3,000 glass flowers, created by glass artisans Leopold Blaschka and his son, Rudolph; the exhibit was the artistic inspiration for her future botanical creations. Several years later, back home and working for an advertising agency, her artistry was 'discovered' when her house was used for a photo-shoot by a magazine. Her ceramic flowers were featured. They stirred such widespread interest that she began to take orders. In 1992 she decided to become a full time ceramic artist and founded Mustardseed & Moonshine, naming the company after two of the sprites in Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream".

Mustardseed & Moonshine now has over forty full time employees many of whom were trained in an apprenticeship programme that Kate created. The incredible attention to detail which these trained artists lavish on their work is manifest in their products. These breathtakingly beautiful and exquisitely executed botanical ceramics are functional objets d'art which can be safely used in dishwashers, microwaves and ovens. We encourage you to own one.
