BUSHA BROWNE'S JAMAICAN PRESERVES
GUAVA JELLY, 12 oz
The Guava is indigenous to Jamaica and is bountiful in the rain forests of
Portland. The name has been passed down to us from the island's original
inhabitants, the Arawak Indians, and is acclaimed in the folk song "a medicine
fe cure young gal fever". The season is a short and limited one. The
freshly picked fruit is twice boiled in the traditional manner of the 19th
Century planters to produce this most delicious jelly. It's great for
breakfast on hot buttered toast, but do not leave it open on a garden table;
in Jamaica the Yellow bird has a distinct penchant for it too. It's also a
favourite with children, liberally heaped onto peanut butter sandwiches. |
